Meet Steven T. Johnson 



Steven T. Johnson is a Democrat and native son running for City Council in Baltimore City's 6th District with a simple but powerful mission: to bring HOPE to the community.

For Steven, HOPE means Helping hands, Opportunities, Perseverance, and Engagement. He is committed to using these values to serve the people of his community and the entire district.

As an Educator, for the last 13 years and former president of the Pimlico Terrace Neighborhood Association, Steven has a proven track record of leadership and community engagement.

A product of Baltimore City Public Schools Steven has dedicated his career to serving the city's youth as an Educator.

When elected, Steven plans to prioritize improvement for the lives of Baltimore residents. He recognizes the challenges facing the community and is committed to working tirelessly to address them.

Steven lives in Park Heights with his wife and three children, Kailah, Kaileigh, and KaiRHO, and is ready to bring his passion and dedication to Baltimore's 6th District to make a positive difference in the lives of all Baltimoreans.

As City Councilman,

Steven will:

Bring small, minority, and women-owned businesses to District 6:

- Steven is committed to promoting economic growth and opportunity in the district by fostering a business-friendly environment that supports small, minority, and women-owned businesses.

He plans to work with local business owners, community leaders, and city officials to identify and remove barriers to entry, providing resources and support to help these businesses thrive.

Youth Engagement & Investment 

- Steven recognizes that investing in our youth is critical to the long-term success of our community.

 He plans to prioritize funding for after-school programs, mentoring, job training, and other resources that help young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life.

- Steven pledges to leverage relationships, with nonprofit and workforce development to create "The Alternate Pathways to Succes Program" in partnership with Baltimore City Schools.

Injecting new life, into our once robust trades programming, in Baltimore City Schools will intentionally expose students to trades, and other licensed skills, leading to life-sustaining careers.

Upon graduation they will be certified, or licensed in that skill, or trade, and placed with an employer, paying a living wage or salary. 

Create safer neighborhoods:

- Steven is committed to ensuring that all residents of District 6 feel safe and secure in their homes and communities.

He plans to work with city agencies, community leaders, and residents to identify and address the root causes of crime and to implement evidence-based strategies that reduce violence and improve public safety.

Ensure consistency and equity in providing city-based services:

- Steven believes that all residents of District 6 deserve high-quality, reliable city services, regardless of their race, gender, income, or zip code.

He plans to work with city officials to ensure that services such as trash pickup, road maintenance, and snow removal are provided equitably and efficiently to all neighborhoods in the district.

Create common-sense legislation that works in the favor of all people, not just a few: Steven is committed to creating legislation that benefits all residents of District 6, not just a select few. He plans to work with city officials, community leaders, and residents to identify areas where legislation can be improved or expanded to better serve the needs of the community.

Create lasting city and community-based partnerships, helping to propel some of our most vulnerable communities to the next level:

- Steven is passionate about building strong partnerships between the city, community organizations, and residents. These partnerships are critical in addressing the challenges facing our most vulnerable communities.

He plans to work with these stakeholders to identify areas where partnerships can be strengthened or created to support community-led solutions to issues such as poverty, housing, and education.

JOBS

Steven is committed to bringing small businesses and other economic opportunities to the district to create jobs, spur economic growth, and provide value for the community.

He plans to work with local businesses, community organizations, and city officials to identify and remove barriers to entry and to provide resources and support to help these businesses thrive.

Steven recognizes the impact of food deserts on the health and well-being of residents in certain areas of the district.

He is committed to fighting to bring quality grocery stores to these areas to ensure that residents have access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food options.

Steven, plans to work with city officials, community leaders, and residents to identify and address the root causes of food insecurity and to implement evidence-based strategies that improve access to healthy food for all residents.

Education

Steven is committed to ensuring that students in the district have safe and technologically updated school facilities.

He plans to regularly engage with school-based activities and the school day in general to identify areas where improvements can be made and to advocate for the necessary resources to make these improvements

Steven recognizes the value of skilled trades and other certifications in preparing students for successful and fulfilling careers.

He is committed to ensuring that these opportunities are once again available in city schools so that students have the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the workforce. 

Steven believes that conflict resolution should be a part of the school-based curriculum to help provide alternative ways of resolving conflict without violence.

He is committed to fighting for the inclusion of conflict resolution strategies in the curriculum; working with educators and community partners to identify and implement effective approaches to conflict resolution in schools.

Public Safety

Steven believes that the City Council has a responsibility to hold public safety agencies, including the police, accountable for the well-being of the citizens of our city.

He plans to work with other Council members to create common-sense policies through legislation that are equitable and measurable, and that prioritize the safety and security of all residents.

As the City Councilman of District 6, Steven is committed to fighting to reduce violence and make our community a safer place to live, work, play, and raise a family.

He plans to work with law enforcement, community leaders, and residents to identify and address the root causes of violence, implementing evidence-based strategies that reduce violence and improve public safety in the district.

Steven recognizes that public safety begins with intentionality and using data to inform how we move and what resources we use to move our city in the direction of safety.

He plans to work with city officials, community leaders, and residents to identify and implement data-driven approaches to public safety that prioritize the needs and concerns of all residents. 

Youth Engagement

Steven is committed to ensuring that funds are allocated to recreation facilities in the district to provide world-class programming that addresses the social and emotional needs of young people.

He plans to work with city officials, community leaders, and residents to identify and prioritize investment in recreation facilities, providing safe and engaging spaces for young people to gather, learn, and grow..

Steven recognizes the value of PAL centers in fostering positive relations between police and youth and in promoting safer and more engaged communities.

He is committed to re-establishing PAL centers in District 6 to provide young people with positive role models, mentors, and opportunities to connect with law enforcement in a positive and supportive environment.

He plans to work with law enforcement, community leaders, and residents to identify and address any barriers to establishing PAL centers in the district and to ensure that they are designed and implemented in a way that meets the needs of the community.
